亨利英語系列 Ep 14：英文閱讀技巧 Main idea & Supporting details

 閱讀的重點不在多，而是有沒有抓到文章的精華重點，以及自己是否能理解分析

今天就來分享如何閱讀英文文章、小說、故事、教科書等等📖

只要掌握這小小技巧，閱讀也可以很有趣、很輕鬆、很開心！

👉What is Main Idea？甚麼是 main idea?

✅The main idea of a paragraph is the author’s message about the topic.

✅簡單的說就是作者最主要想要表達文章的 “大綱”

👉How do I find the main idea？哪裡可以找到 main idea 大綱

✅大部分(非全部類型)的文章都可以從以下兩種簡單的方式找到文章最主要的核心：

🔜The 1st sentence of a paragraph (第一句)

🔜The last sentence of a paragraph (最後一句)

通常我會建議學生，看完一段文章後，是不是能用自己的話來描述這段大綱。

當學生可以用自己的意見來描述大綱時，那表示這段大綱已可以理解。

接著我們就可以往下一階段，supporting details

👉What is supporting details？

✅Supporting details are reasons, examples, facts, steps, or other kinds of evidence that explain the main idea.

✅Supporting details 細節是用來 “解釋” 主要大綱的原因、例子、事實、步驟或其他類型的依據。

👉Where can I find the supporting details? 哪裡找Supporting details細節?

✅簡單的說就是文章內來輔助說明的句子都可以算是supporting details.

👀我們來看一段文章如下：

Spots was a large grey and white cat. Spots lived in a barn on a farm. Spots liked living in the barn. It was warm in the winter and cool in the summer. There were many mice for Spots to chase. Best of all, Spots had a soft place to sleep in the corner of the barn.

剛有提到大部分的 main idea 可以從第一句or 最後一句來找到大綱

以這段來說第一句在描述是

Spot was a large grey and white cat. (一隻灰白色的大貓)

似乎無法說服是段落的大綱。

往最後一句看:

Spots had a soft place to sleep in the corner of the barn.

(穀倉的角落裡有一個柔軟的地方可以讓Spots睡覺。)

❗所以我們可以依照邏輯推敲出這段的大綱就是 The barn was a good place for Spots to live.

（穀倉是 Spots 居住的好地方。）

接著我們順著可以找出細節 supporting details:

❗Details 1: Spots liked living in the barn.

❗Details 2: The barn was warm in the winter and cool in the summer.

❗Details 3: There were many mice for spots to chase.

這些都可以算是描述 details 細節的部份。

運用這些簡單的技巧，不論是多厚的書本、多困難的文章，都能用這些來簡化文章大意和細節。

如果是幾百頁的原文教科書，只要能在每一段自己歸納出 main ideas and supporting details

並加以筆記，即使教授期末考整本書也沒在怕了👍
